Every classification is tied to the public evidence reviewed. Missing evidence is recorded as a gap, not silently converted into a verdict.
Not every unfamiliar download is malicious.
Legitimate mirrors exist. Third-party package managers can point to official artifacts. Stale pages can look suspicious. Genuine publisher binaries can sometimes appear inside malicious packages. OriginGuard separates those cases rather than collapsing them into one alert.
Evidence before conclusion
Third-party does not automatically mean malicious. Unknown does not automatically mean unauthorized. A report can end with no high-priority finding when that is what the evidence supports.

Directly supported as the publisher’s own distribution surface.
AUTHORIZED
Strong first-party evidence supports the relationship, without overclaiming ownership.
KNOWN THIRD-PARTY
A separate distributor is identified and understood.
VERIFIED PASS-THROUGH
A third-party location points to a matching, known artifact.
UNVERIFIED
The available public evidence does not establish origin or authorization.
CONFLICTING
Relevant sources disagree or cannot yet be reconciled safely.
IMPERSONATING
The evidence supports a deceptive attempt to present as the publisher.
MALICIOUS is reserved for cases with separate evidence. OriginGuard does not use fake percentages or “AI confidence scores”.
